BlackBerry may have left the hardware space, but it looks like the company still has one last surprise in store for its loyal fans. CEO John Chen confirmed that there is one more BlackBerry smartphone with a physical keyboard yet to be released, although he didn’t quite say when that would be.
The confirmation came during an interview with Bloomberg Canada, where Chen confirmed that BlackBerry is still working on one final device. According to Chen, this phone was promised before; and the company is simply making good on that promise to its customers.
Sadly, very little is know about this upcoming device. Few rumours have surfaced about BlackBerry’s device plans since it announced that it would cease internal development. The Canadian company is now licensing the BlackBerry brand to third party manufacturers, and has released several phones under the DTEK name.
Speculation has it that the new BlackBerry built phone is codenamed Mercury, and may run Android 7.0 instead of BB10. Of course, there’s no telling how far along the development of this smartphone is; and how much longer it will take for it to get on the market.
