Blizzard has finally revealed Sombra, the latest hero to join the Overwatch roster. This followed months of teasing through an Augmented Reality Game, or ARG, that had players scrambling to look for clues throughout everything Overwatch related.
Sombra is an offensive class hero who specialises in disrupting enemies. She is able to hack opponents to disable their activated abilities, go invisible, and has a personal teleporter. From the gameplay footage, she looks to be one of the rare characters that is able to shut down Reinhardt’s shield without having to shoot at it. This alone should rapidly change the Overwatch meta.
One other thing Sombra is able to do is hack first aid kits; preventing the enemy team from using them. In other words, opposing teams will have to rely on their team support for healing; provided that someone was gracious enough to actually play a healer for a change.
Blizzard has also released a short animation which has the company’s trademark quality and finish. It also sets up a future story hooks for the mysterious Brazilian hacker; who unlike Lucio, actually has a South American accent.
Sombra should be appearing in the Overwatch Public Test Region in the coming weeks, although nobody is sure when she will be officially released for the regular game.
