Huawei’s upcoming flagship phablet, the Mate 9, isn’t set to be unveiled until the 3rd of November this week. Not surprisingly, another set of leaked images – allegedly of the Mate 9 – have surfaced, and they look pretty convincing. These images also seem to confirm a Leica-branded dual-camera system on the unannounced phablet.
These leaked images depict the Mate 9 together with its retail box, which looks very similar to the packaging of its predecessor, the Huawei Mate 8. Of course, there’s now also Leica’s branding on the box; seems like Huawei’s partnership with Leica is extending beyond the Huawei P9.
The device pictured in these images does look very similar to leaked renders of the Mate 9, right down to the dual-camera setup with Leica’s branding. We also got a much closer look at the two rear cameras, which seem to protrude slightly from the phone’s chassis. Considering the fact that the rear cameras supposedly have 4x optical zoom, the slight bump is pretty interesting.
While these are certainly interesting features, the leaked screenshots of the Mate 9 are arguably more noteworthy. Apparently, the Mate 9 will ship with Emotion UI 5.0 based on Android 7.0 Nougat, and based on the overall user interface these screenshots show (especially the notification panel), we’re inclined to agree.
As is always the case with leaked information, nothing is confirmed until the Huawei Mate 9 is officially announced. Rest assured, all will be revealed come 3 November 2016.
