The newly announced Macbook Pro fully embraces Intel’s Thunderbolt 3 technology; so much so that it doesn’t actually have any other types of ports. Naturally, Apple has expanded its range of adapters with the new Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 cable.
As it stands, there is already a number of USB Type-C adapters on offer from Apple. Mostly catering the 12-inch Macbook with Retina display, which sported a single USB Type-C port. Fortunately, all of these should work with the Thunderbolt 3 ports on the new Macbook Pro’s.
Those buying into the new Macbook Pro should take stock which of the cables will be necessary for every day life and plan accordingly. Thunderbolt 3 is not exactly the most common type of port in the market, and we expect that Macbook users will have to get used to carrying many, many different adapters.
The new Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter is being sold for RM229, but is unlikely to see many users take up on it. Although Macbook Pro users should get used to the idea of having a spare bag for adapters – they’re going to need it.
