Turtle Rock Studios has announced that it is ending support for Evolve, signalling the end of the assymmetrical team shooter. Evolve had recently attempted to save itself by going down the free-to-play route with Evolve: Stage 2. However, it would seem that the influx of players was not enough to justify continuing work on the game.
The new broke through a blog post on the Evolve community forums, where Turtle Rock co-founder Chris Ashton thanked everyone for their support in creating the game. Ashton also seemed to indicate that the decision to cease work on Evolve came from 2K Games, instead of Turtle Rock itself.
Evolve was one of the most anticipated games of 2015, although the excitement failed to translate into sales. Players complained about the repetitive gameplay and limited content at launch. Switching to a F2P model re-ignited some interest in the game, but even that appears to have failed to translate into anything substantial.
That being said, the Evolve: Stage 2 servers will still be kept running for the time being. Players will be able to continuing playing the game for now, but there will be no future patches released.
