For the past few months, there are an increasing numbers of smartphone that offers 6GB of RAM including ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe, OnePlus 3, OPPO R9s Plus, and Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus. Things about to change very soon though as the industry’s first 8GB LPDDR4 DRAM package for mobile devices has just been unveiled.
Manufactured by Samsung, the new 8GB DRAM package is consisted of four 16 Gb memory chips and is manufactured using 10nm process technology. Not only that, it also apparently operates at 4,266 Mbps which is faster than a DDR4 2133 DRAM for PC.
The company certainly didn’t hide the fact that the module is meant for next generation flagship mobile devices as well as supporting manufacturers that have begun putting dual cameras as well as 4K and VR capabilities into their devices. That being said, Samsung has yet to unveil any products that will be utilizing the new memory module.
Nevertheless, it is only a matter of time before smartphones and tablets with 8GB RAM arrive in the market. Now the question is…are consumers ready for them?
