Candy Crush is one of the most successful mobile apps of all time; which is why it is only logical that it receives its own game show. Developed by a collaboration between Candy Crush owner King ltd and Lionsgate TV, the show is apparently being designed as a kind of puzzle solving contest.
The announcement from CBS says that the format of the show involves teams of two people competing on giant interactive game boards. These boards will supposedly be featuring next generation technology; whatever that means.
Video games as part of a game show are something of an anachronism in this day and age. They were reasonably popular back in the 80s and 90s, but have fallen out of favour as people seem to prefer just playing the games themselves.
On the other hand, it is a relief that the announcement doesn’t involve some sort of Candy Crush movie. Hollywood seems to think that any video game can become a movie, even those like Battleship or Tetris.
