Samsung is releasing an update to the Always On Display that can be found on the Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 edge. Version 1.4.02 of the Always On Display introduces customisation features that were previously exclusive to the Galaxy Note 7.
For starters, Samsung has added new layout designs to the Always On Display ‘clock’ section. This includes a new digital clock layout that lets you display your own text signature, which can be customised with different fonts, colours and background. You can also add your own image to the Always On Display.
Other than that, the company has replaced the two existing calendar themes with a new streamlined one. Samsung has also mentioned that the new update will reduce the device’s battery consumption by 1% every hour.
That being said, several XDA developers users have reported that the update also broke a few AOD features. Stock email app notifications doesn’t seem to be working, selected layouts wouldn’t apply to S-View covers, and unread counters for messages and calls don’t work anymore.
Those of you who still have a Galaxy Note 7 in your hands should power it off and return it immediately. For those who have the Galaxy S7 or S7 edge, you might want to check your Settings app for the new Always On Display features.
