Samsung Malaysia Electronics has provided more updates regarding the Galaxy Note 7. In line with other countries, the company is offering some credit (Samsung is calling it cashback here) for those who opt to exchange the Note 7 with an S7 edge.
On top of that, Samsung Malaysia has provided a detailed, step-by-step process for those who opt for a full refund or exchange. In both cases, Samsung only requires owners to return the device and the box – accessories such as the fast charger, USB Type C cable, USB to USB Type C adapter, and the earphones can all be kept by the owner. This is on top of the pre-order freebies, which means those who return the device retain quite a fair amount of useful items.
Samsung also confirmed that it will begin contacting all 8,000 pre-order customers in Malaysia will be contacted in the coming days by Samsung themselves, or the retail and telco partners from the pre-order campaign for the now-discontinued device.
Those who opt for the exchange to the Galaxy S7 edge will not have to make any additional payment. On the day of the exchange, Note 7 owners will get a brand new S7 edge and receive the RM300 cashback via bank transfer; owners are required to bring along a copy of their IC and their bank statement. With the inclusion of the cashback, the effective price the customer pays for the S7 edge would be RM2,579.10 (Note 7 pre order price of RM2,879.10 deducted by RM300).
On the other hand, those who prefer a full refund will be required to bring the Note 7 and box, as well as a copy of IC and bank statement.
In addition, Samsung is also issuing refunds for all original accessories purchased from Samsung Experience Stores and participating partners as long as they are returned with proof of purchase. Those who have purchased the screen protection warranty and opted for the exchange will see the warranty transferred to the new device.
Finally, a check with Samsung also revealed that the company is also accepting returns for devices purchased overseas. As this is a global-scale recall, those who purchased imported units are required to contact Samsung Customer Careline at 1-800-88-7799. However, a Samsung representative could not confirm the refund amount, but that they will be referred to on a case-by-case basis.
