Facebook has finally added Apple TV and Google Chromecast support for its videos. With this update, this means that you no longer have to stick to your small smartphone or tablet screen when watching your favourite videos on the social network, just stream it to the big screen via these two devices.
The update is now available on iOS devices and the web. When you load a video, be it a video from your favourite cooking page, or a live video of an on-going event, you will see a new TV button. Tap on that and Facebook will ask you to select the devices you would like to stream to. Videos will play as usual, while Live videos will show real-time reactions and comments on the screen as well.
Like how other Chromecast and Apple TV videos work, once you let your Facebook videos stream to the big screen, you can continue using your phone to browse the News Feed without interrupting the video; you don’t even need to have Facebook active, just continue using your phone like you normally would.
You can now stream to the Apple TV (and other AirPlay-enabled devices) or Chromecast (and other Google Cast-enabled devices) from an iOS device or your web browser. Google says that you will soon be able to cast from Android devices to Chromecast as well.
