As one of the major telco in Malaysia, it is natural that Digi has joined forces with Apple to release the brand new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in our market. This time around, Digi has decided to have the launch the new devices at its own headquarters in Shah Alam – a first for the telco.
When we arrived at the HQ at around 8:30pm, it is already bustling with activities and crowds. In general, Digi’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus customers are divided into two types: pre-order and walk-in. Even though the telco has provided different collection area for both types of customers, the collection procedures are almost the same.
Walk-in customers will first have to go through the front counter to verify their CTOS and account status before they were given their collection queue number. Pre-order customers on another hand are able to obtain their collection queue directly at the entrance as they already made their payments online.
Regardless of pre-order or walk-in customers, they are free to go and roam around the launch area to enjoy all the entertainment and nourishments that Digi has provided once all the necessary verification, payment or registration are completed. It is a rather good idea anyway as these customers were only able to get their hands on the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus from midnight onwards.
Interestingly, Digi has also provided opportunity for customers to purchase iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus at discounted prices during the event. However, all of these devices were sold out by 10pm. Customers were also able to trade-in their old phone to offset the price of their new iPhone that they purchased at the launch event.
Once midnight set in and a brief launch gambit, Digi begun to usher its eager iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 customers to collect their devices. The first walk-in customer was Amy Oh who arrived at the HQ around 7pm and decided to purchase a Rose Gold iPhone 7 Plus to replace her aging iPhone 4 (!!). Joining her was Cheng Weng Hong who pre-ordered a Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus.
All in all, it seemed to us that the mid-scale launch event by Digi was done in rather orderly manner and a very laid back vibe. Meanwhile, users who prefer to obtain their iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus during normal business hours are able to do so through Digi Store nationwide starting from today onwards.
These new devices can also be purchased through Digi’s official website as well but in case you want to know more about the telco’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus first, check out our reports here and here.
