In a bid to make its portable hard drives a lot less boring, Western Digital has unveiled a redesigned lineup of My Passport and My Book portable hard drives. As a result, the company’s portable hard drives are now available in a slew of flamboyant colours.
Western Digital calls dubs the design change as “reimagined” which apparently reflects on the fact that storage is now “much more of a personal commodity”. This is pretty apparent when looking at its redesigned lineup of My Passport portable hard drives, which comes with a brand new casing. In addition, there are now five fabulous colour choices: Blue, Black, Red, White, Orange, and Yellow.
Interestingly, Western Digital’s My Book external hard drive has also received a facelift, but with only one colour option: Black. The case design is pretty much similar to that of the smaller My Passport hard drive; actually, come to think of it, the new My Book portable hard drive looks a lot like an Xbox One.
Western Digital’s My Passport portable hard drives will be available in storage capacities of 1TB, 2TB, 3TB, and 4TB. The My Book external hard drive will come in capacities of 3TB, 4TB, 6TB, and 8TB. Price-wise, the new My Passport drives will start from US$65 (about RM274) for the 1TB model and up to US$140 (around RM590) for the 4TB model. Meanwhile, the My Book external drive will be priced from US$130 (approximately RM548) for the 3TB variant up to a whopping US$250 (about RM1,054) for the 8TB variant.
Unfortunately, the availability of these portable hard drives in Malaysia wasn’t mentioned by Western Digital, but we do expect the company to make an announcement regarding this soon.
