The PlayStation VR will not be meeting its 13 October release date; at least not for Malaysians. A notice was sent via SMS to inform pre-order customers that their virtual reality headsets would not be available today, and will only be available on 21 October.
No reason was provided for the delay, but some are already suspecting that there was a problem with SIRIM certification. We have reached out to Sony Interactive Entertainment, but have yet to receive a comment on the situation.
Needless to say, many Malaysians are unhappy with the delay. The Sony Malaysian and Sony Asia Facebook pages are riddled with comments expressing dissatisfaction with the turn of events; most of which come from those who had pre-ordered the device.
Interestingly, the PS VR’s original release was delayed to October for undisclosed reasons. It is simply unfortunate that we have had to endure a second delay; especially when this happened to be a global release.
Update: Sony Interactive Entertainment has gotten back to us with the same statement posted on the PlayStation Asia page. There’s no further comment from the company, so it looks like they can’t tell us what’s keeping the devices from shelves.
