Most of us are probably not oblivious to the fact that Google’s browser, Chrome, is a notorious memory hogging beast. Well, it looks like the browser’s hunger will soon be reduced thanks to an update that’ll come this December. Chrome 55, the updated browser, is said to consume significantly less RAM when browsing JavaScript-heavy websites.
According to sources, Chrome 55 will come with a revamped JavaScript engine – aptly called V8 – that’ll enable the browser to boast a reduced memory footprint. This means that websites such as Twitter, Reddit, and the lot will no longer cause the Google-made browser to consume ridiculous amounts of system memory.
Google has provided two graphs that depict the improved memory consumption on its upcoming Chrome 55 browser against version 53 and 54. Interestingly, up to 50% improvements in memory consumption can be seen when browsing through websites like Imgur and The New York Times.
That said, it’s important to note that the memory load improvements done with Chrome 55 may only be noticeable by devices with low RAM capacities for now. However, the Google team working on V8 has stated that more apparent improvements (for other users) will come in the future as a result of the revamped JavaScript engine.
The final version of Chrome 55 will be made available for download on the 6th of December, but do expect a beta version to be released earlier. The improvements that’ll come with Chrome 55 will definitely benefit plenty of its users, considering how the browser is currently the world’s most popular.
