Asus has announced the availability of a UEFI BIOS update that will allow its existing 100-series motherboards to be compatible with Intel’s 7th generation processors. Prior to this, folks at MSI have also issued the same BIOS update for its 100-series motherboards earlier this week.
Owners of Asus’ 100-series motherboards will be glad to know that upon flashing the UEFI BIOS update, their motherboards will be compatible with Intel’s upcoming desktop-grade Kaby Lake processors, which are said to be making their debut in early 2017. Intel’s 7th generation CPUs are currently only found in notebooks.
According to Asus, its Z170, H170, B150 and H110 motherboards that are under the Asus ROG, Pro Gaming, Signature or TUF series will support the most recent BIOS update by the company. Installing the UEFI BIOS update can be done by either using the Windows-based Asus EZ Update utility or the ‘simpler’ Asus USB BIOS Flashback feature – which is only supported by certain Asus motherboards.
The UEFI BIOS update for Asus’ 100-series motherboard has been released and can be downloaded via the company’s official website. Folks who are keen on getting Kaby Lake processors when they release should consider updating soon. The full list of supported Asus motherboards can be found below:
