Nintendo may be selling a tiny NES to the world, but it’s Japan that’s getting the miniature Famicom system. Technically called the “Nintendo Classic Mini: Family Computer”, the console will be shipping with 30 of the company’s hit 8-bit games.
Unlike the miniature NES, the Nintendo Classic Mini does not have detachable controllers. This unfortunately means that people will have to play these games on the smaller-than-usual Famicom controllers. Which were never that comfortable or ergonomic to begin with.
The pre-installed games are also missing a couple of old classics, like the original Final Fantasy and Kid Icarus. Although it does manage to include two Downtown titles and the obligatory multiple incarnations of Mario.
The entire list of games is:
- Donkey Kong
- Mario Bros.
- Pac-Man
- Excitebike
- Balloon Fight
- Ice Climber
- Galaga
- Yie Ar Kung-Fu
- Super Mario Bros.
- The Legend of Zelda
- Atlantis no Nazo
- Gradius
- Ghosts ‘n Goblins
- Solomon’s Key
- Metroid
- Castlevania
- Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
- Tsuppari Ozumo
- Super Mario Bros. 3
- Ninja Gaiden
- Mega Man 2
- River City Ransom
- Double Dragon II: The Revenge
- Super Contra
- Final Fantasy III
- Dr. Mario
- Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku: Soreyuke daiundoukai
- Mario Open Golf
- Super Mario USA (the US version of Super Mario Bros. 2)
- Kirby’s Adventure
The Famicom Mini is set for a 10 November release for 5,980 Yen (about RM244). There’s no indication that this will be made available anywhere else in the world, but that shouldn’t stop people from trying to get their hands on it.
