It was only earlier this month when the Sony Xperia XZ and X Compact were made official globally, but yet here we are at the Malaysian launch event of these devices. We also have a pleasant surprise: the Xperia XZ is priced much, much better than the Xperia X.
Out of the two new devices in the Xperia X series, the Xperia XZ is the higher-end offering. In fact, it’s the first proper flagship from Sony to officially be available in Malaysia. It has a 5.2-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor paired with 3GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, a 13MP front-facing shooter, and a 2,9000mAh battery.
The camera is the highlight of the Xperia XZ: it has a 23MP rear camera with Sony’s Predictive Hybrid Autofocus and an RGBC-IR sensor for better colour accuracy. The best part is, the more affordable device, the Xperia X Compact, also has the same rear camera.
As the more affordable device of the two, the Xperia X Compact isn’t quite as well-equipped, but it’s still a very capable smartphone. It features a 4.6-inch 720p display, a Snapdragon 650 processor paired with 3GB RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, a 5MP front-facing camera, and a 2,700mAh battery.
According to Sony, the Xperia XZ is now available for pre-order on 11street; both the XZ and the Xperia X Compact will be available nationwide from the 7th of October. The Xperia XZ retails at RM2,699, while the X Compact will go for RM1,999.
