It has been a pretty packed year for Xiaomi so far. Earlier this year, it officially launched the Xiaomi Mi 5, and more recently, there’s the Redmi Pro and Redmi Note 4. Now, the Chinese company has set another event on the 27th of September, and “more than one product” will be launched on that day.
Naturally, Xiaomi has released a teaser image for the upcoming event. Although the teaser did not specifically mention any product name, the letter “S” is prominently displayed, which led many to believe that the company will unveil the Xiaomi Mi 5S on 27 September. After all, the device has been leaked numerous times.
According to rumours, the Mi 5S will be packing Qualcomm’s “ultrasonic fingerprint sensor,” which is a fingerprint sensor placed under the glass of the smartphone. The most obvious advantage to this technology in comparison to conventional sensors is the fact that it will be more aesthetically-pleasing; the sensor itself would be hidden from sight.
Other leaks have also suggested that the Mi 5S will be packing superior hardware over the standard Xiaomi Mi 5. These include a Qualcomm Snapragon 821 processor paired with 6GB of RAM, up to a whopping 256GB of internal storage, a 16MP rear camera, as well as a bigger battery.
These hardware and feature are certainly enticing, but until Xiaomi officially introduces the Mi 5S, they are nothing more than rumours. We will find out just what Xiaomi has to offer come 27 September; it’ll be interesting to see what other product – or products – the company will be releasing on that day.
