Another new device, another round of torture tests. This time around, these tests of durability revolve around two high-profile smartphones: the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Based on what these videos below have shown, it appears Apple’s latest smartphones are pretty durable – the devices even survived a seven-foot drop, face down.
First up is a video by YouTuber JerryRigEverything, who is well-known for his numerous durability tests, which include the Nexus 6P and Moto Z. Recently, he put the iPhone 7 through its paces, and the video revealed several interesting things: the home button as well as the camera lens of the iPhone 7 are scratch-resistant (to an extent), and the device will certainly not bend under normal use.
More interestingly – and practical – is a video by TabTimes, which dropped both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus a total of 12 times. The result? Both devices survived the drop tests (even when they landed face first), and were still functional by the end of the ordeal. Although the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus’ displays are not made of sapphire glass, they certainly are durable.
It goes without saying the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have solid build quality. After all, these smartphones do not come cheap. While these videos show that both of Apple’s latest smartphones will be damaged to an extent in certain conditions, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will almost certainly be durable enough for everyday use.
