As expected, Xiaomi Malaysia has released the Redmi 3S on our shores. Surprisingly enough, however, the retail prices of the budget-friendly device aren’t quite as competitive as its predecessor, the Redmi 2. Then again, the Redmi 3S does pack some respectable hardware.
Powering the Redmi 3S is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor paired with up to 3GB of RAM, an upgrade over the Redmi 2’s Snapdragon 410 chipset. Other than that, the 3S also has a very generous 4,100mAh battery; Xiaomi claims users can get up to two days of usage with it.
Another noteworthy aspect of the Redmi 3S is its metal construction, which should give the device a much more premium look and feel over the Redmi 2. Rounding out the specifications of the Redmi 3S are a 5-inch 720p display, up to 32GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot (supports cards up to 128GB), a fingerprint sensor, a 13MP rear camera with phase detection autofocus, as well as a 5MP front-facing shooter.
In Malaysia, two variants of the Xiaomi Redmi 3S are available. The more affordable model has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage for RM599, while the other variant has 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage for RM699. If you’re keen to place your pre-order for the base model of the Redmi 3S, you can do so on 17 September here.
According to Xiaomi Malaysia, the Redmi 3S will be available for purchase on 24 September 2016 through Lazada and its official distributor ERA International Network.
