Apple’s new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus officially go on pre-order later today (9 September 2016) in about 20 countries, before going on sale one week later. The second wave of the new iPhone’s global launch takes place on 23 September, but as reported yesterday, Malaysia is nowhere to be found in both lists of countries.
In the US, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus is priced from US$649 and US$769 respectively. In addition, Apple has already unveiled the prices of both devices in the preorder countries, so if you’re wondering how the price is like, here’s a collection of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus prices around the world.
The table below compares the launch prices of the new iPhones with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus at launch. Each new iPhone usually holds a pattern in terms of pricing, and that acts as a reliable guideline for us to predict how much the new iPhones will cost when it hits our shores Malaysians. You’ll find our predictions after the table.
As you can see, the launch price of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are similar to that of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus when they were launched last year. There are some slight changes possibly because of the currency differences, but for countries like Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China, where the price of Apple products are more similar to our price, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 launch price are the same. Hopefully it means that the iPhone 7 will have the same launch price as the iPhone 6s.
As for the larger iPhone 7 Plus, it is slightly more expensive now. For the U.S., the iPhone 7 Plus is US$20 more expensive, starting from US$769 as opposed to US$749 for the iPhone 6s Plus. Interestingly, this difference in price is consistent for other countries as well – the addition of a second rear camera sensor plus the extra RAM may be responsible for the price increase.
But on the bright side, Apple has doubled the storage for its iPhone 7 smartphones, which means that you are paying the same price (or maybe a little bit more), for double the storage from previous models.
So, now that we’ve dissected the global prices for the iPhone 7, what will the prices be like for us Malaysians? As per our tradition, here’s our prediction on how much the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will cost in Malaysia:
iPhone 7
- 32GB – RM3199
- 128GB – RM3699
- 256GB – RM4199
iPhone 7 Plus
- 32GB – RM3799
- 128GB – RM4299
- 256GB – RM4799
Yup, we’re predicting a similar price for the iPhone 7 as the iPhone 6s, but a slight increase for the iPhone 7 Plus. Barring a dramatic change in our currency, there’s a high chance that this will be the case as the pattern is consistent with other launch countries.
