It seems that Apple’s AirPods won’t be compatible to just an iPhone once it becomes available to consumers. Folks over at The Verge have reported that the AirPods will also work with Android devices too. Meaning that one would be able to pair it with devices such as the OnePlus 3 or the Samsung Galaxy S7.
This means that Android consumers too will be able to enjoy the privileges of being able to use a wireless earphone made by Apple. However, it’s worth mentioning that Android devices will not be able to access key features that come with the AirPods such as proximity pairing (quick pairing) and the ability to toggle Siri by tapping the wireless in-ears.
Unfortunately, stripping away all of these functionalities means that Apple’s wireless headphones will probably be nothing more than an overpriced basic Bluetooth earpiece for Android devices – we’ll have to wait until it’s released to be sure, of course.
On a side note, Apple mentioned that aside from selling the AirPods as a pair, it’ll also be selling them separately. This means that if one were to lose just one AirPod, they’ll be able to conveniently purchase a replacement without the need to buy the AirPods as a pair. Apple, however, did not mention what one AirPod earpiece would cost.
