(UPDATE: Malaysian pricing for the new PlayStation 4 has been announced here.)
The new, slimmer PlayStation 4 has been leaked extensively over the past few weeks, but it is only now that Sony has officially introduced the latest iteration of its gaming console. Introduced alongside the beefier PlayStation 4 Pro, the new PS4 looks a lot like the former – it reinforces Sony’s commitment to support both variants of the console equally.
Aside from the smaller dimensions and redesigned chassis, the new PS4 is identical to previous models of the home console – functionally, that is. Shipped alongside the redesigned PS4 is also a new version of the DualShock 4 controller, which has a more visible light bar – we imagine this may be a bit more distracting to gamers than the previous controller’s design.
While the newer and slimmer PlayStation 4 should function similarly to previous models of the console, it remains to be seen how how much it differs in other aspects. These include cooling performance as well as system noise, among other things. Regardless, we will find out about these as soon as the new console starts shipping to consumers on 15 September; it retails for only $299, which is about RM1,210.
