MSI has unveiled its latest gaming motherboard called the Z170A Gaming M6. Unlike other recently announced motherboards, MSI has decided to opt out of the “RGB everywhere” trend and has gone for a more conventional looking design instead.
Aesthetically, MSI’s Z170A Gaming M6 motherboard is features a colour scheme that the company dubs ‘evil grey’. What makes the evil grey-coloured motherboard stand out even more is the red accents that can be found on the left side of the Z170A Gaming M6. Interestingly, MSI seem to have taken plenty of design cues for the Z170 Gaming M6 from its previous 970A Gaming Pro Carbon motherboard.
That aside, the MSI Z170A Gaming M6 comes with a new component called the “lightning USB” (ASMedia 2142 USB 3.1) which theoretically would allow the USB 3.1 port to have double the bandwidth speeds of the previous, first generation USB 3.1 port. MSI has generously fitted the motherboard with two lightning USB ports as well: type-A and type-C each.
I/O ports of the MSI Z170A Gaming M6 include four USB 3.1 ports, two USB 3.0 ports, a USB 3.1 type-C port, as well as a single ethernet and PS/2 ports each. Video outputs can be channeled through the included DVI or HDMI port – odd that there isn’t a DisplayPort port though.
Unfortunately, price and date of availability of the MSI Z170A Gaming M6 was not mentioned. However, we do expect MSI to be making an announcement regarding both matters pretty soon.
