It was only last week when Sony officially unveiled the new Xperia X Compact, but it appears the compact smartphone will be making its way to Malaysia soon. Seems like Malaysians who are looking for a smaller Android smartphone – which is also capable enough – will have another option in the near future.
As is the case with electronic products that have yet to arrive in Malaysia, said devices have to go through our certification body – SIRIM, of course – first before they are released locally. Surprisingly, the Xperia X Compact was registered with SIRIM just a couple of days ago under two companies: Sony Malaysia and Vmatrics.
Now, a SIRIM certification does not guarantee that the Xperia X Compact will be released in Malaysia. However, considering the fact that previous Xperia X smartphones – except for the X Performance – were launched here, there’s a good chance the X Compact will eventually be available here – it remains to be seen if the flagship Xperia XZ will be launched here as well, however.
The Xperia X Compact is certainly an interesting mid-range smartphone. It is equipped with a 4.6-inch 720p IPS display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor paired with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, a 23MP rear camera with phase detection autofocus, a 5MP front-facing shooter, as well as a 2,700mAh battery.
At the time of this writing, Sony Malaysia has not given out any invitation to a local launch event. Hopefully, the Xperia X Compact will be launched here soon – perhaps the Xperia XZ will be released at the same time as well.
