PlayStation 4 owners who have not yet tried Overwatch on their consoles are in for a treat. Blizzard has announced a free-to-play weekend for its hit team-based shooter, which will take place from 9 – 12 September.
The free play weekend offers players full access to the game, including all 22 heroes and 13 maps. All console game modes – except for competitive play – are also being made available.
To further bait the hook, Blizzard is allowing players to keep their hard earned rewards in the event that they decide to pick the game up at a later date. This includes all achievements and cosmetics from loot box drops.
Unfortunately, players will not be able to pre-load the game ahead of the weekend; and the 9GB download is not small by any stretch of the imagination. Interestingly, Japan is not bound by this limitation and will be allowed to download the game ahead of time.
The Overwatch free weekend will begin on 9 September; although due to the time difference with the US, this is actually 2am on 10 September. The offer is also available to Xbox One owners, although it looks like PC gamers have been left out this time.
