True to its promise, Intel today has officially unleashed its latest creation: the 7th Generation Intel Core processors which is also known by its codename, Kaby Lake. Still based on 14nm manufacturing process as per 6th Gen Core processors (Skylake), the 7th Generation Core processors represent improvements
One of the major addition that comes with Intel’s 7th Gen Core processors is a brand new media engine which brings together VP9 and HEVC 10-bit hardware acceleration – something that is not available on 6th Gen Core processors. This apparently helps these new processors to deliver improvement in terms of 4K video playback and content creation while still retain able to battery life of up to 9.5 hours.
According to Intel, these new processors are also able to provide double-digit improvements in terms of performance over 6th Gen Core processors. Then again, Intel did point out during a recent regional conference call that the company is pitching these new processors towards users that still holding on to PCs that are 5 years and older since the differences in performance are much more significant.
The added capabilities in the Intel 7th Gen Core processors also allow manufacturers to include other features into their products such as Thunderbolt 3 and Windows Hello, in addition to 4K display. For starters, the Intel 7th Gen Core processors will be heading to notebooks in the form of Core m3, Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 processors which are further divided into Y and U series. All of them are dual-core processors with four processing threads, thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading technology.
Consumers are able to expect notebooks and mobile systems powered by these processors by year-end holiday season although we believe many of them will be unveiled starting this week onwards at the upcoming IFA 2016 in Berlin. As for those who are expecting desktop, enterprise, workstation, and enthusiasts-level processors, they have to wait for such processors to be released in January 2017.
