Remember the FES smartwatch Sony unveiled about two years ago that is made entirely out of e-paper? It was a very plain looking watch and it looks like Sony has got something a lot fancier this time round. The company recently announced the FES Watch U that looks more like a proper watch, and is currently being crowd funded at the company’s own First Flight crowdfunding platform.
The new FES Watch U now features a steel frame. The watch face and wrist strap are still made out of e-paper, which means that not only can you customise the watch face, you can also pick your favourite band design and change it using your smartphone.
The FES Watch U is available in premium black, silver, and white, paired with metal frame and metal buckle. Since it is made entirely out of e-paper, it has a pretty impressive battery life that lasts about three weeks in a single charge. The Watch U works with iOS 9 and above via Bluetooth 4.1 LE.
The price range between ¥44,720 and ¥59,940 (about RM1,776 to RM2,380). The deadline for the crowdfunding project is 7 October 2016, and the watch will ship by April 2017. Sadly though, this is only available in Japan and like most projects on First Flight, is not likely to leave the country.
