Years after we last heard of it, the Immigration Department’s online passport renewal system will finally open its door once again very soon. According to the report, the Director-General of the department Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali revealed that users are able to utilize MyOnline Passport starting from 1 September 2016.
However, the system has yet to be deployed throughout the country though since MyOnline Passport is apparently still in pilot stage at the moment. For now, pick up counters for the online renewal system will only be available at Immigration offices in Pahang, Penang, Putrajaya, and Sarawak as well as Urban Transformation Center (UTC) Pudu Sentral in Kuala Lumpur and UTC Galleria @ Kotaraya in Johor Bharu.
Nevertheless, the system will allow Malaysians to renew their passports regardless of their location and even through mobile phone. Just like the previous iteration of MyOnline Passport, the new version will continue to allow users to update their passport details and accepts credit or debit cards as method of payment.
Additionally, users will also able to choose the location of pick up counter for their passport through the system as well. As the online passport renewal system will be extended to other states in Malaysia if the pilot roll-out performs well enough, so let’s see how the system is able to cope with the current demand from these four states and two UTC locations.
