Grab has announce its expansion to the historic city of Malacca, as well as Kota Kinabalu. These two locations were chosen due to the large number of tourists that visit the cities; and will offer new opportunities for locals who want to join the ride-sharing service.
Grab Malaysia country head, Jaygan Fu, stressed on Grab’s stringent checks and safety aspects in the announcement. Fu explained that both GrabCar and MyTeksi drivers must undergo background checks before they are being allowed to drive for the service. Grab as a whole has been stressing the safety and security of the rides it offers; and this appears to be reaffirming its stance on the issue.
“Both GrabCar and MyTeksi drivers are required to go through stringent background checks, have access to 24-7 customer service and PDRM button in the driver’s app in the event of emergency, passengers can share their ride with their friends and family so they can keep track of their whereabouts and also both drivers and passengers are covered by an insurance policy,” said Fu.
The addition of the two cities now sees Grab operating in five locations in Malaysia, with the service already existing in the Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor Bahru.
In conjunction with the launch of the expansion, and Malaysia’s impending Merdeka Day celebrations, the ride-sharing service is launching the Grab Merdeka59 promotion. This will provide Grab users with a RM5 discount on nine GrabCar (economy) rides.
This promotion only applies to those paying using debit/credit cards; and does not work with the cash payment option. All passengers have to do is select the ride of their choice and enter the MERDEKA59 promo code to benefit from the offer. The Grab Merdeka59 promotion runs from 25 to 31 August.
