After weeks of action which also saw Malaysian contingent achieved its best Olympic outing yet with one bronze and four silver medal, Rio 2016 has finally come to an end today. As per tradition, the latter part of event’s closing ceremony involved a handover ceremony for the next Olympic host city, Tokyo which include a fantastic montage that features a number of its world famous icons such as Nintendo’s Mario.
In the montage, Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe transforms himself into the famed video games character in order to reach Rio 2016 closing ceremony in time. This is done with the help of gadgetry expertise by another Japanese icon, Doraemon.
In addition to these two characters, Captain Tsubasa, Pac Man, and Hello Kitty also appeared in the montage alongside Japanese athletes from various sports. Not to forget, the classic Super Mario Bros. victory song also accompanied the fireworks at the end of the handover ceremony.
If you wonder how the montage looked like, you have to wait a little bit longer for the official video to be up on YouTube though as International Olympics Committee has started blocking unofficial videos of the montage uploaded by other users on the service. That if IOC plan to put it up online, anyway.
