While we have been hearing about the 3GB version of NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 for quite some time, this still caught us by surprise. Based from what we’ve gathered from several sources, the unveiling has been brought forward for reasons that are beyond our knowledge. Nevertheless, the rumors were true indeed: there is one thing that separates between the original 6GB model and the new 3GB variant.
Specifically, what differentiate them apart is the amount of CUDA cores as the GTX 1060 3GB model has 1152 cores as compared to the 1280 cores on the 6GB variant even though both are still using the same GP106 chip. However, the rest of the specs between both cards are pretty much the same.
This including GPU clock speed of 1506 – 1708 MHz, 192-bit memory width, 192 GB/sec memory bandwidth, 8 Gbps memory clock speed, 94C thermal limit, and 120W graphics card power. Not to forget, the 6-pin power connector and recommended PSU of 400W.
Another thing that separates them apart is their price: the GTX 1060 3GB will be go for USD 199 (about RM 794) which is USD 50 (about RM 199) less than the 6GB version. This also puts the directly against AMD Radeon RX 480 4GB which has the same price tag. Of course, the Malaysian pricing for the card will be different though and we shall know soon enough.
