At a special event in San Francisco last night, AMD has presented additional information regarding its Zen processor core to invited guests. While we already aware of how AMD claimed that the new core has 40% improvement in instructions per clock as compared to its predecessor, this time around the company has decided to demonstrate how that improvement looks like in real life.
Using an engineering sample of the upcoming Summit Ridge 8-core, 16-thread desktop processor which was paired with a Radeon Fury X graphics card, the company showed how the processor is able to deliver exceptional gaming performance at 4K resolution using Deus Ex: Mankind Divided:
AMD didn’t just stop there though as the company then decided to show that its processor is able to outperform Intel Core i7-6900K Broadwell-E processor. Using Blender as example, the Broadwell-E processor which has the same number of cores and threads as per Summit Ridge is clocked to match the AMD’s processor at 3GHz.
In general, this is an interesting early look at the potential firepower that Zen processor core might have. Nevertheless, we are more eager to look at the final product though which is expected to be out sometime next year. Things should get really interesting by then.
