Lenovo has revealed a pair of what it describes are portable gaming desktops in the most recent additions to its IdeaCentre Y-series. The idea is that gamers may want the option to occasionally take their best hardware on the road; which is where the IdeaCentre Y710 Cube and IdeaCentre AIO Y910 come in.
The Lenovo IdeaCentre Y710 Cube is an interesting take on the portable computer idea. It is essentially a square box with a carrying handle on the top. Inside, Lenovo offers options up to an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080, a sixth generation Intel Core i7 processor, 32GB of RAM, and a choice between a 2TB HDD or a 256GB SSD.
What is really impressive about the Y710 Cube is the fact that there is an option for an integrated Xbox One wireless receiver. It will allow up to eight Xbox One wireless controllers to connect at the same time. While Lenovo says this is for multiplayer gaming sessions with friends, we are hard pressed to think of any game that allows that many people on the same computer at the same time.
On the other hand, the IdeaCentre AIO Y910 is less portable than its cuboid counterpart; but includes a QHD display into the setup. This display has a refresh rate of 144Hz with a response time of 5ms; allowing it to take full advantage of the kind of hardware that Lenovo believes will be installed in this machine.
The hardware choices are similar to that of the IdeaCentre Y710 Cube; although the AIO also offers an AMD Radeon RX 460 as an alternative graphics card.
The Lenovo IdeaCentre Y710 Cube will be available to the public in August 2016 with a starting price of €899 (about RM4000). However, the Y710 Cube with GeForce GTX 1070 will not be available until September 2016. The Lenovo IdeaCentre AIO Y910 will be available from September 2016 with a starting price of €1799 (about RM8000).
