It looks like Google will be killing off its Hangouts on Air, a live streaming feature in Google+. In a recent announcement, the internet giant said that all live-streaming will be moved to YouTube Live instead.
Starting from 12 September 2016, Hangouts on Air users will have to move to YouTube Live for all their live-streaming needs. Google has detailed out how to set up Hangouts on Air with YouTube Live on its support page. As with Hangouts on Air, YouTube Live broadcast allow users to either go live immediately, or schedule a YouTube Live event; users can also pick to have the video be public, unlisted or private. Sadly though, some features like Q&A, Showcase and Applause are not available on YouTube Live.
Hangouts on Air was first launched back in 2012, when there were not much live streaming options available. It was used by big names such as Barak Obama and Pope Francis. Sadly though, since YouTube seems like the way to go, Google will be killing it off just like its other Google+ Products such as Google+ Photos.
If you are using Hangouts on Air, check out Google’s support page to learn how to set up Hangouts on Air with YouTube Live. Events cannot be scheduled on Google+ after 12 September 2016 and you will need to move existing events scheduled to happen after the deadline to YouTube Live.
