Asus has been rather quiet in the wearable market after initially unveiling the ZenWatch 2 back in June last year. Although the Taiwanese company has not mentioned anything about a successor to its recent smartwatch, an FCC filing revealed that the next generation ZenWatch may have a circular design.
Based on the image pulled from the FCC filing, the next ZenWatch will be dubbed – not surprisingly – the ZenWatch 3. Although the image only shows the label of the smartwatch, it’s very likely to be a circular wearable based on the shape of said label.
The label also revealed that the ZenWatch 3 will feature a stainless steel back; more likely than not, this means the unannounced smartwatch will retain the premium build quality of the ZenWatch series. Hopefully, the ZenWatch 3 will also ship with a leather strap like its predecessor.
Despite having a square display – which is generally perceived as “less attractive” over a circular one – the Asus ZenWatch series is one of the sleekest-looking Android Wear smartwatches in the market. If the ZenWatch 3 does in fact feature a circular display, it will be interesting to see how the smartwatch’s final design will look like; perhaps it’ll be the Android Wear device to get.
