Launched alongside the ZenFone 3 series of smartphones in Malaysia are the Asus ZenBook 3, Transformer 3 Pro and Transformer 3. Considering the fact that these devices were only unveiled back at Computex 2016, this is quite a timely launch.
The most premium offering of the three – also the most costly – is the ZenBook 3. Although this laptop has similar dimensions to Apple’s light and portable new MacBook, the former is equipped with a more powerful Intel Core i7-6500U processor paired with 16GB of RAM; quite impressive for a laptop only 11.9mm thin.
Other specifications of the ZenBook 3 include a 12.5-inch 1080p IPS display, a huge 1TB PCIe SSD, as well as a single USB Type-C port. For these kind of hardware, the ZenBook 3 goes for RM7,999 in Malaysia. It remains to be seen if Asus Malaysia will bring in any other variant of the ZenBook 3.
The Transformer 3 Pro and the regular Transformer 3, on the other hand, are essentially Asus’ take of the Surface form factor. Both laptops have sharp 12.6-inch 2880 x 1920 3K displays, Thunderbolt 3 ports, as well as very fast PCIe SSDs – the Transformer 3 Pro has a 512GB SSD, while the Transformer 3 has half the storage at 256GB.
Interestingly, while the Transformer 3 Pro features a Core i7-6500U processor for the Malaysian market, the Transformer 3 will ship with an unspecified seventh-generation Intel Core processor. As for retail price, the former goes for RM6,999, while the more affordable Transformer 3 retails at RM3,199.
Unfortunately, Asus Malaysia did not give any specific date of availability for all three of these products. That being said, we were told that they will be available in Malaysia within this month.
