Apple isn’t only focusing on improving the big things on its upcoming iOS 10 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The company is also focusing on the smaller things such as emoji, with new gender diverse options, water gun, and more.
The Cupertino company recently posted an update stating that there are over a hundred new and redesigned emoji characters in iOS 10. The update now feature female athletes and professionals that previously only featured men. There are now female weightlifter, basketball player, surfer, construction worker, private investigator, and such.
Apple isn’t the only company moving towards a more gender diverse set of emoji. Back in May 2016, Google also proposed at least 13 new female emojis to the Unicode Consortium, an organisation that oversees the creation of new emojis. The emojis will “highlight the diversity of women’s careers”.
That’s not all, there is also a new water gun emoji in the update, possibly to make up for the rifle emoji that was rejected by the Unicode Consortium back in June because Apple opposes of it.
Finally, other changes include new rainbow flag, two different gender options for single-parent families, and more. Apple also redesigned the regular emojis with new styles. The update will only be released to the public along with the release of iOS 10. Developers can get an early preview with the latest iOS 10 beta 4 seed.
