At the recently concluded EA Champions Cup 2016, Malaysia’s very own Malaysia Tigers won third place in FIFA Online 3 – an online football game developed by Spearhead Studio and serviced by Chinese company, Tencent.
The EA Champions Cup is an international FIFA Online 3 tournament that features a total prize pool of $300,000 (approximately RM1.2 million). There are a total of eight teams representing seven countries – Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, China, and Malaysia. These teams went head to head at the Shanghai Expo Centre from 23rd to 24th July for their share of the prize pool.
Team Malaysia Tigers consists of Kent ‘RBxArroyos’ Liaw, Vin ‘EMaster.Vin’ Chew, Hariry Faiz, and RBxWintersss. The team won 3-0 against Team Vietnam to secure its third place finish, granting them the $30,000 (about RM120,000) share from the prize pool.
To celebrate Team Malaysia Tigers’ achievement at this year’s EA Champions Cup 2016 Summer, players will get 5 million EP, which is the in-game currency to purchase players and items. All they need to do is login to the game anytime between the 26th to 28th of July.
While FIFA Online 3 may not be as big as other eSports titles like Dota 2 or CS:GO, it is definitely growing with its own unique audience. Malaysia Tigers’ achievement is yet another indicator of the potential of our eSports players.
