If you open Google Maps on your desktop, Android or iOS device, don’t be surprised by a new layout. Google recently updated its Maps app, giving it a much cleaner look, and highlights area of interests to make it easier for you to discover places with lots of activities to do.
First up, Google has cleaned up the interface on Maps. It has removed unnecessary elements like road outlines, making it easier for users to see relevant information like traffic and transit. The typography has also been changed so it’s easier for users to distinguish them from other things on the map.
The next update will definitely come in handy when you’re off on a holiday to a new place. Google will highlight “areas of interests” in orange, so you can easily find places with lots of “activities and things to do”. Areas of interests are determined by places with the highest concentration of restaurants, bars and shops.
Finally, the update also brings a more subtle and balanced colour scheme to Maps. You can now quickly identify places like hospitals, schools and highways just by looking at the colours.
