The next Batman game is set for a release on 2 August. Developed by Telltale Games, Batman – The Telltale series represents a somewhat different take on what a Batman title should look like. Gone is the fast-paced rhythm combat, replaced with a greater focus on storytelling and character interactions. In other words, it’s more about being the world’s greatest detective instead of the dark knight.
Not much is known about the plot for Batman – The Telltale Series; but the trailer seems to indicate that the first episode deals with Harvey Dent’s campaign to become mayor of Gotham city. Complicating the matters is a group of mobsters headed by Carmine Falcone; a character introduced by legendary comic writer Frank Miller.
The trailer also shows the player interacting with people are both Bruce Wayne and Batman; although there seems to be a greater amount of talking when the Bat is not involved. Interestingly, reporter Vicki Vale makes an appearance. Vale hasn’t been seen outside of comic books since Tim Burton’s Batman all the way back in 1989.
This new Batman is voiced by video game veteran Troy Baker. While Baker seems to do a decent job of sounding like Batman, it is a little disappointing that Telltale couldn’t get Kevin Conroy for the job.
Batman – The Telltale Series is a five episode game, with the first episode set to drop on 2 August for the PC, Mac, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Android, and iOS.
