Nintendo is giving fans what they have always wanted. Almost anyway. The console maker has announced a new Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition; which looks almost exactly like the original NES – aside from the fact that it is tiny.
The NES Classic Edition will ship with 30 games pre-installed; many of them classic Nintendo titles that have retained their replay value. These include Metroid, Ninja Gaiden, Super Mario Bros 3, Final Fantasy, and Double Dragon II: The Revenge. Unfortunately, the number of games is fixed and Nintendo has said that it has no intention of expanding the titles available.
Nintendo also has an updated NES controller with the miniature console. The new connection ports mean that it won’t work with the actual NES controller from all those years ago, and it also means that the classic accessories won’t work either. Interestingly, this new controller can be connected to a Wii or Wii U to play Virtual Console NES games.
The NES Classic Edition will be available for an RRP of $59.99 (about RM240); while additional controllers will retail for $9.99 (about RM40). It is scheduled to begin shipping from 11 November 2016.
