Last month, Google has asked users from throughout the world to provide a suitable name for Android N which is expected to be released later this year. The company even came out with a cheeky video for the campaign but now, the time has finally come for Google to reveal the name for the latest version of its operating system.
In an announcement over Twitter, Google has revealed that it has chosen Nougat as the final name for the operating system. Just like previous Android iterations, the announcement was accompanied by the unveiling of the new Android lawn statue at its Mountain View campus to reflect the new name.
Introducing #AndroidNougat. Thank you, world, for all your sweet name ideas! #AndroidNReveal pic.twitter.com/7lIfDBwyBE

While I would personally prefer Nutella or Naan, Nougat is certainly not a bad name at all. Just like its predecessor Android Marshmallow, the statue seems rather simple though as compared to the more elaborate KitKat, Jelly Bean, and Ice Cream Sandwich.
Meanwhile, I guess we all can start thinking about what to name Android O then…I bet it will be called Oreo.
