In less than 2 hours, Yes 4G will be unveiling its LTE prepaid and postpaid plan to the Malaysian consumers. However, we now believe that the telco might have additional agenda under its sleeves at the launch later today: at least one new device.
Spotted at around 1:30 am today nearby Raja Chulan monorail station at Jalan Sultan Ismail in Kuala Lumpur, it might look like a general Yes 4G LTE advertisement featuring The King legendary footballer, Eric Cantona until we took a closer look at the wordings which translates to “Get Yes 4G LTE Smartphone”.
Furthermore, the phone that Cantona hold on his hands looked significantly different from the 2016 J Series devices that the company co-launched with Samsung recently. Based on the image, we believe that the smartphone is likely to be called Yes Altitude and a quick check through SIRIM’s database shows that Yes 4G (under its formal name, YTL Communications) does indeed has a smartphone registered to its name recently.
However, the listing showed that the smartphone which has model number M631Y is not a WiMAX device unlike Yes 4G’s previous smartphone – Eclipse – that was released in 2012. Hence, we are quite curious on how Yes 4G is going to relay the “duality” nature of the phone – 4G LTE and 4G Broadband – as per the advertisement.
Well, we should be able to get the answer very soon, so stay tuned for updates from the Yes 4G LTE launch event later today.
