Astro will be raising the price of its Sports Pack subscription by RM8.48 (which includes GST) starting from 1 August. The satellite broadcaster says that this is due to the rising costs of providing sports content; most notably for the screening of the English Premier League.
In addition to the price increase, Astro will be adding two new channels to the Sports Pack. The first is BeIn, a channel dedicated to coverage of continental football. That means leagues outside of the UK, like the Bundesliga and La Liga.
The other channel happens to be eGG, Astro’s new eSports channel. This is not technically new, as it is already available to all Astro subscribers. Whether this announcement indicates that eGG will be moved to the Sports Pack is unknown.
As a token of appreciation, Astro customers who have had a subscription running before 30 April 2016 have received a complimentary ‘Sports Pass’. This allows them to view the Euro 2016 and Rio de Janeiro Olympics live events on the respective dedicated channels.
