Opera has responded to claims by Microsoft that Edge is the most power efficient browser available. According to Opera, its own browser is 20-percent more efficient than Microsoft’s; and it is ready to prove it.

The response also includes Opera’s methodology for conducting the tests; something that Microsoft failed to provide. This includes the type of simulation being run, which was designed to mimic a real user. Unlike Microsoft’s test, Opera opted to leave its built-in ad-blocker turn on.

Interestingly, Microsoft Edge developer Kyle Pflug has responded to Opera’s response. Pflug used Twitter to point out the holes in Opera’s methodology; saying that leaving the native ad-blocker turned on does not prove that Opera is more energy efficient than Edge. It is worth noting that Edge does not have a native ad-blocker built in to deal with these sorts of situations.

Needless to say, Google has not chimed in on the issue. Possibly because Chrome is awful for battery performance; no matter which method of testing was used. Of course, it is unlikely that Google will bother commenting – seeing that Chrome is the most popular browser in the world.
