Remember the high-end, smart bicycle Xiaomi introduced a few months back? Well, the Chinese company has unveiled a new product under the QiCycle brand, and it’s a foldable electric bike. Dubbed the QiCycle Electric Folding Bike (very descriptive), it’s naturally a competitively priced electric bike – after all, it’s a Xiaomi product.
Retailing at only 2,999 Chinese yuan (that’s about RM1,870), the 14.5kg QiCycle Electric Folding Bike can assist its users’ pedaling for up to 45km on a single charge; it’s powered by 20 – yes, twenty – 2,900mAh batteries, which the company claims are the same batteries used by Tesla. Other than that, the foldable electric bike also has a Shimano Nexus three-speed gear hub, a 250W 36V motor, as well as a trip computer which records distance, calories burned, and of course, speed.
The introduction of the QiCycle Electric Folding Bike further emphasises Xiaomi’s claim that it isn’t a a smartphone company, but a “technology company.” Then again, it’s likely that this electric bike was built by one of Xiaomi’s many partners.
Regardless, local availability and pricing of the QiCycle Electric Folding Bike have not been announced yet. That being said, it’s unlikely to be officially launched in Malaysia based on the general availability of Xiaomi’s products other than smartphones – and their accessories – in this country.
