It might have appeared without much notice but with the recent launch of the 2016 edition of Samsung J series alongside the advertisement that being shown in between Euro 2016 matches on Astro, Yes 4G’s brand new LTE network is ready for primetime. With that, what will happen to the customers that are still on Yes 4G’s original WiMAX network then?
Well, there is nothing for these customers to be worried about at the moment as Yes 4G will continue to serve WiMAX customers according to its CEO, Wing K. Lee at a recent dinner session with members of the press. Wing further stated that it has enough spectrum to cater these customers with 30MHz out of the company’s 80MHz pool of spectrum have been dedicated for WiMAX.
That being said, Wing did envision that there will come a day that these customers might have to make the jump to LTE. No official timeline has been set yet but nevertheless, the CEO has assured that the company is committed to find non-intrusive ways for these customers to do so when the time comes.
Meanwhile, Wing has also mentioned that the coverage map on Yes 4G’s website will be updated to reflect its two networks after the official launch of Yes 4G’s LTE network on 30 June 2016. In other words, users will finally able to see Yes 4G’s WiMAX and LTE coverage separately on the update map.
There are still plenty of things to be revealed at Yes 4G LTE launch event though, so stay tuned for our coverage of the event next week.
