It may have taken over half a year, but it appears the Nexus 5X may just be launched here in Malaysia very, very soon. If it does officially make it to our market, it will be joining its higher-end sibling, the Nexus 6P, which was launched back in December last year.
In our usual search in SIRIM’s database, we stumbled upon the Nexus 5X – it was registered under Brightstar Distribution, one of the largest distributors in the country. Now, it’s not confirmed that a device will be available in Malaysia officially just because it has been registered with SIRIM, but more likely than not, it will be launched locally.
Interestingly, the 2014 Nexus 6 was also officially available in Malaysia around the same time last year. Naturally, just like the Nexus 5X, the Nexus 6 was also registered under Brightstar Malaysia.
Although the Nexus 5X isn’t quite as premium or high-end as the Nexus 6P, it still boasts very respectable specifications. These include a 5.2-inch 1080p IPS display, a Snapdragon 808 processor paired with 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of non-expandable storage, a 2,700mAh battery, the same 12.3MP rear camera as the Nexus 6P, and a 5MP front-facing shooter.
Currently, the Nexus 5X can be purchased for as low as RM1,049, although it’s unclear if this is an official unit. Regardless, it’s great to see that the 2015 Nexus lineup is making its way to Malaysia. Hopefully, the 2016 Nexus device – or devices – will arrive here in a more timely manner.
