Whilst everyone is eagerly waiting for the release date of AMD’s Radeon RX 480 (29 June), a local retailer has managed to list down its retail price for the upcoming graphics card. The retailer, Lucro PC, will be selling the Sapphire RX 480 8GB variant (reference design) for RM1,249. It’s worth mentioning that the the suggested retail price given by AMD was US$199 (about RM815) – for the 4GB variant, of course.
The RM1,249 price tag for the RX 480 8GB variant should be more or less the same for other local retailers as well. That said, it’s worth noting that the price for the 8GB variant of the Radeon RX 480 graphics card hasn’t been released by AMD as of yet. Nonetheless, the RM1,249 retail price for the RX 480 8GB seems quite fair when one considers the fact that the 4GB variant is already priced at RM815 (not locally).
Unlike the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 Founders Edition graphics cards that are sold in Malaysia with highly inflated prices, folks that are looking to buy the Radeon RX 480 shouldn’t worry too much about ludicrous “supplementary costs” being added onto the final retail price of the graphics card – at least for the reference edition.
Interestingly, Lucro PC has mentioned that it will be receiving stocks for the RX 480 starting next week and is currently open for reservations. The retailer may only start selling the graphics cards during or after the stipulated release date due to NDA matters.
Knowing that the retail price of the Sapphire RX 480 8GB will be less than that of the GTX 1070, it’ll be interesting to see which graphics card will be the favourite amongst PC gamers here in Malaysia. Yes, the GTX 1070 is the more powerful graphics card, but a majority of gamers in Malaysia are still gaming on 1080p monitors – which makes the Radeon RX 480 a more economical choice for them… probably.
